The Worshipful Town Mayor of Folkestone, Councillor Lucy McGirr is delighted to announce Amy Rice as the winner of the ‘Festive Folkestone’ Christmas card competition, which will be sent out to local businesses and dignitaries, including His Majesty The King.
The effort and skill shown by the pupils was outstanding, which made it very difficult for us to choose one overall winner.
🥇First prize - £30 voucher to Amy Rice of The Folkestone School for Girls
🥈Second Prize - £20 voucher to Ella Chivers of The Folkestone School for Girls
🥉Third Prize - £15 voucher to Myla Miles of The Folkestone School for Girls

2.30pm - Festive Parade members assemble outside the Clifton Hotel and pre-parade festivities

3.00pm Festive Parade departs from outside The Clifton Hotel for Town Centre Precinct to the Town Hall

3.40pm – 3.45pm Twirlstars – Baton Twirling & Pom Shaking performance to festive songs

3.50pm – 4.10pm Victoria Bass vocalist

4.15pm – 4.25pm Special guest Q&A with Peter Pan and Captain Hook from The Leas Cliff Hall Pantomime Cast

Since 1974 applications have been welcomed each ye

Since 1974 applications have been welcomed each year around this time from residents of Folkestone to apply to the Town Mayor of Folkestone’s Christmas Fund for assistance with their winter expenses. Prior to 1974 this was known as the Mayor’s Coal Fund and gifts of coal were distributed to those eligible.
Each year local businesses and individuals make donations to the Mayor’s Christmas Fund and payments are then sent in January to residents who fall within a certain financial criteria, as agreed by the Town Mayor of Folkestone’s Christmas Fund Committee.

The Town Mayor of Folkestone, Councillor Lucy McGirr, is delighted to welcome nominations for the ‘Town Mayor’s Community Awards’. These annual Awards provide an opportunity for the Mayor to show her appreciation to members of the community who have done something particularly noteworthy in Folkestone within their year in office.
All nominees should:
🥇Not be an employee of local government or a Councillor for Folkestone.
🥇Not be employed to perform a specific role in the community.
🥇Be an unpaid volunteer in the community.
🥇Be someone that has given up their own time without prompting and offered to help other people or the community.
🥇The local organisation nominees should be for those that have contributed significantly towards local charitable activities, in addition to their normal services provided for profit.

All nominees should also meet one or more of the following criteria:
🥇Be someone whose service to the community is worthy of recognition.
🥇Be someone who deserves recognition for their effort, strength, bravery or achievement.
🥇Be someone who has achieved something, which benefits their local community or even the whole of the Town.
