The Town Mayor of Folkestone, Councillor Michelle Keutenius, has expressed the deepest sympathy of the Members and officers of Folkestone Town Council on the sad passing of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. 

The Town Mayor said: “We pay tribute to The Duke for his unwavering support and service to The Sovereign, United Kingdom and Commonwealth and our thoughts and prayers are with Her Majesty and the Royal Family at this most difficult of times.”

Following a Referendum of the town’s people in May 2003 and the subsequent approval of the Secretary of State,
Folkestone Town Council was formed in June 2004, although Folkestone had been a Borough Council up until 1974.
