Samuel Plimsoll

A Talk by Nicolette Jones

Saturday 25 October 2pm (for 2:30pm start)

The Cornerstone Centre, Castle Hill Ave, Folkestone, CT20 2QR

In the second half of the nineteenth century, MP Samuel Plimsoll exposed the dangers of ‘coffin ships’ – overloaded and poorly maintained vessels that often sank, taking their crews with them whilst their owners profited from insurance pay-outs.

Write, journalist, literary critic, broadcaster and Sunday Times children’s book reviewer Nicolette Jones chronicles the campaign of the man who spent his later years in Folkestone.

Refreshments will be served.

Tickets £5
