VJ Day (Victory over Japan Day) is the celebration of the surrender of Japan, ending combat in the Second World War on 15 August 1945.

The day is celebrated by a service in the Garden of Remembrance at the Burma Star Memorial, commencing at 11:00am and is attended by civic dignitaries, military personnel and representatives of ex-service and youth organisations.

Folkestone Town Council is closed from 24th December for the holidays and will reopen on Monday 5th January, with the Town Hall reopening on Tuesday 6th January with the usual opening times of 10am – 4pm.  Please note that Folkestone Museum will reopen on Saturday 3rd January.
