CCTV, Crime & Disorder

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 places an obligation on Councils to consider the crime, disorder and environmental issues affecting the local area and ensure their activities do all they reasonably can to prevent them.

Folkestone Town Council is committed to improving the safety and well-being of residents, businesses and visitors and to help achieve this, operate a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system with over 65 cameras across the town.  As part of a partnership arrangement with Swale Control Centre, these are monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The main objectives of our CCTV programme is to:

  • Deter and reduce the fear of crime.
  • Help detect crime and provide material for court proceedings.
  • Provide assistance in the overall management of public health and safety.
  • Encourage use of the town centre, shopping areas and car parks.

You can request footage by the following link CCTV – Request footage if you:

  • Believe you have been recorded by our CCTV system and you want to see the footage.

Reporting Anti-Social Behaviour

If you are experiencing anti-social behaviour, you can report your concerns to Folkestone and Hythe District Council .

If you’ve been the victim of crime or anti-social behaviour on several occasions within the same area and you’ve reported incidents to the Police or the Community Safety Unit, you can contact the officer handling your case to discuss the possibility of installing a temporary, mobile CCTV camera.

Commercial Premises

Swale Control Centre also offers a range of services from public space and commercial CCTV monitoring, access control, out of hours and facilities management.

If you are a local business and looking to make improvements to the safety of your premises to tackle criminal behaviour, then why not look to join the growing network of CCTV partners in a private contractual agreement with Folkestone Town Council/Swale Control Centre?
