Christmas Lights

Each year, Folkestone is lit up with festive lights across the town.

Folkestone Precinct, Cheriton High Street and surrounding areas are lit up with a festoon of lights organised and maintained by Folkestone Town Council.

Folkestone Town Council officially adopted the responsibility of Christmas lighting provision in 2013 and have continued to significantly enhance the schemes each year.

The lighting schemes, and associated festivities support the Council’s mission to revitalise our town of Folkestone, retain and develop civic pride, regenerate and enhance community spirit.

More Information

Nothing marks the beginning of Christmas quite like a Christmas light switch-on event and Folkestone Town Council have delivered them year upon year.

The Christmas light switch-on event brings communities together, serving to encourage community engagement and offering an economic boost for local retailers and businesses with the increased footfall.

This annual event is community-focused, creating a family-friendly atmosphere with attractions that appeal to all ages including a festive parade, Santa, Christmas market, a range of musical and dance performers and Christmas themed entertainment.

If you are a business or organisation which is interested in having a stall, taking part or sponsoring the Christmas Light Switch On event, in return for a range of promotion opportunities, please email: vicky.deakin@folkestone-tc.gov.uk

Climate

With climate issues at the forefront of minds, and as part of the Council’s Climate Action Plan aims and objectives, steps have been taken to make the Christmas light displays as energy efficient as possible.

  • All new installations use LED technology, which reduces energy consumption by 75% compared to regular lights.
  • Lights are 100% recyclable and recycled polymer, where possible, including the new Town Hall LED Christmas tree.
  • For energy efficiency, the Christmas lights are switched on between 3.00pm and 11.00pm daily and can be seen annually from mid-November until early January.
