The Town Mayor’s Year 6 Christmas Carol Concert 2025

The Town Mayor’s Year 6 Christmas Carol Concert 2025

Each year the Town Mayor of Folkestone holds a Christmas Carol Concert for all Year Six Primary School children within Folkestone, held at the St Mary & St Eanswythe Church, The Bayle.

This year, the Town Mayor, Cllr Lucy McGirr was delighted to welcome almost 300 children from nine schools with Father Christopher Johnson, the Mayor’s Chaplain, leading the service.

All the children enthusiastically sang and some even signed to the traditional Christmas Carols, including ‘Little Donkey’, ‘O Come all ye Faithful’ and finishing with ‘We Wish you a Merry Christmas’. Prayers were written and read out beautifully by students of St Eanswythe Primary School, whilst students of Morehall Primary School read out Christmas Poems that they had written themselves.

The Mayor addressed the children, wishing them well in their future move to Secondary School and a very Merry Christmas, whilst encouraging them to enjoy the festive season and bearing in mind those that are less fortunate.

The Mayor said “I would like to thank everyone involved in the Christmas Carol Concert, from the children to the teachers, the Reverend and the Organist for making this a truly special event and not forgetting the Town Council Officers for organising the event. I feel very much in the festive spirit now and hope that everyone who attended felt the same way. The children sang and signed beautifully, and I feel very lucky to have been involved.

The children were all very well behaved and impressed me with their reading skills as well as their singing voices. The children reading the poems and prayers did an amazing job, to stand in front of that many people is extremely impressive at such as young age.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”
