Overview of Folkestone/Mechinagar Twinning Association
Folkestone has had a sister partnership with Mechinagar Municipality of Nepal since 10th February 2020. The Nepalese Twinning Association is an independent association aiming to promote residents’ knowledge and understanding between Folkestone and Mechinagar.
The association achieves its objectives by:
· Encouraging communication by individuals and groups between the two towns, particularly children and young people.
· Promoting the development of the cultural, economic, educational, sporting and tourism links between the towns.
· Encouraging a greater understanding of each other’s cultures, history and traditions.
· Organising local social, cultural or educational events in order to encourage its members and other interested people to meet together.
Membership of the Twinning Association executive is open to invited representatives e.g. professional bodies and groups invited by the executive team. In addition, a separate classification of club membership will be open to all.
The focus of the group is to deliver activities to support the aims and the objectives of the Twinning Association.
The Town Council actively supports the Nepalese Twinning Association by:
· Providing dates and details of planned events within Folkestone so as to allow groups to link in potential twinning visits.
· Signposting to potential sources of funding, so that links can develop and grow.
· Encouraging Councillors to be part of the Folkestone/Nepalese Twinning Association as an outside body.
· Providing tourist information for Mechinagar in the Visitor Information Centre at the Town Hall.
