The Worshipful Town Mayor of Folkestone, Councillor Michelle Keutenius, invited students in year groups 7 and 8 at local secondary schools to design a picture reflecting ‘Festive Folkestone’ for this year’s annual Christmas card, which will be sent out to local businesses and dignitaries, including Her Majesty The Queen.

Councillor Michelle Keutenius, said “My thanks to The Folkestone School for Girls, The Harvey Grammar School, Goldwyn Folkestone and Turner Free School for taking the time to send in so many entries for the competition, which were of a very high standard. Special mention must be made of the following students whose designs were shortlisted:

Heidi Dart (The Folkestone School for Girls)

Simon Gerrard (Goldwyn Folkestone)

Anya Rai (The Folkestone School for Girls)

Rachel Reene (The Folkestone School for Girls)

Prisha Sapkota (The Folkestone School for Girls)

Ethan Ward (The Harvey Grammar School)

Charlie Warren (Turner Free School)

The effort and skill shown by the pupils was outstanding, which made it very difficult for us to choose one overall winner. However, after very careful consideration first, second and third place were awarded as follows:

First prize - £25 voucher to Ethan Ward of The Harvey Grammar School

Second Prize - £15 voucher to Prisha Sapkota of The Folkestone School for Girls

Third Prize - £10 voucher to a student from The Folkestone School for Girls

My thanks to the school staff for arranging for the students to take part and of course to all those students who took the time to submit an entry.”

Ethan’s design will now be used for the Mayor’s Christmas card for 2020 which will be sent out shortly.
